Characterization of two Samples of commercial brake K1 and K2 used as a reference and a preliminary study to develop a material of railway brake using OPEFB fiber. Conducted research on the production parameters is to generate the corresponding production parameters. From the test results and evaluation obtained parameters of the best production and serve as a reference parameter in the process of making the sample, these parameters were: load 150 ton, time 40 minutes and the temperatur 200C. Then the research of material composition conducted by varying the composition into 6 sample of material and were evaluated using extension evaluation method with the commercial samples K1 and K2 to select and choose the best among from all samples. From the evaluation results using EEM, sample T1 and T4 which use OPEFB fiber as reinforcement have ranked above the commercial samples K2 which uses synthetic fibers. So it can be concluded that OPEFB fiber as reinforcement for railway brake material can improve physical and mechanical properties of the material, have a good performance, friendly to the environment and it is expected to replace synthetic fibers. text
