Mercury could be transformed, so it will increase mobility and toxicity. This is a concern because it can be potential pollution of the soil surface, ground water and absorption by plants and bio accumulation in the food chain which can increase health risks. In the preliminary research, the process of remediation of mercury in the soil was carried out using a soil washing method on soil with low clay content using KI (Pottasium Iodide) solvents. However, when processing using a soil washing method, the leachete requires further processing before finally being discharged in the environment. In this study, the soil washing process of mercury-contaminated obtained leachate that had concentrations exceeding the quality standard (2-3 ppm) because of that, we need doing further process, that is adsorption process using GAC adsorbent impregnated Fe and Ce with batch and continuous system. Based on Minister of Environment No. 202 about waste water quality standards for businesses and or mining activities of gold and or copper ores, mercury has a maximum level of 0.005 mg/L. Experiments showed that the batch system had the best adsorption capacity value was GAC-Ce adsorbent at 0.087 mg/g and mercury concentration has decreased to 0.443 ppm. The mercury adsorption process using GAC, GAC-Fe and GAC-Ce is more suitable to be modeled with the Freundlich isotherm model. Continuous adsorption system uses columns to find out how the application of adsorption in the pilot scale, the breaktrough curve shows that the adsorbent starts to saturate at 510 minutes and the column system adsorption has an adsorption capacity of 35.562 mg/g based on the Thomas model. text |
