The usage of conventional fossil based aviation turbine fuel brings various impact on environmental and also health aspect, which already being a global issue. Because of that, we are in need of an alternative solution for that problem. Coconut oil based alternative biojet fuel is one of the solution that are really suitable to be implemented in Indonesia. This alternative fuel is produced using HEFA process, where hydrogenation and hydrodeoxygenization process are used to produce saturated carbon chain and remove the oxygen content inside the fuel to make it similar in properties with the conventional aviation turbine fuel. Coconut based fuel are used to eliminted the needs of hydrocracking process, and the final product are isomerized to reduce the freezing point. The HEFA fuel are mixed with the conventional Jet A-1 with 5% and 10% concentration of HEFA fuel, and later will be tested using the Rover 1s/60 Gas Turbine Engine for eight different condition. The performance and emission test result shows that the alternative fuel producing better result despite the performance differences are small but the emission differences are pretty significant, where the thermal efficiency are higher by 0.63%, fuel consumption are lower by 0.79%, , and also the CO, HC, NO x , and the smoke emission are lower by 15.08%, 10.39%, 22.22%, and 41.74% for the 10% concetration than the Jet A-1. text |

Human high demand on air transport also makes high dependability on aviation turbine
fuel. The usage of conventional fossil based aviation turbine fuel brings various impact on
environmental and also health aspect, which already being a global issue. Because of that, we
are in need of an alternative solution for that problem. Coconut oil based alternative biojet fuel
is one of the solution that are really suitable to be implemented in Indonesia.
This alternative fuel is produced using HEFA process, where hydrogenation and
hydrodeoxygenization process are used to produce saturated carbon chain and remove the
oxygen content inside the fuel to make it similar in properties with the conventional aviation
turbine fuel. Coconut based fuel are used to eliminted the needs of hydrocracking process, and
the final product are isomerized to reduce the freezing point. The HEFA fuel are mixed with
the conventional Jet A-1 with 5% and 10% concentration of HEFA fuel, and later will be tested
using the Rover 1s/60 Gas Turbine Engine for eight different condition.
The performance and emission test result shows that the alternative fuel producing
better result despite the performance differences are small but the emission differences are
pretty significant, where the thermal efficiency are higher by 0.63%, fuel consumption are
lower by 0.79%, , and also the CO, HC, NO
x
, and the smoke emission are lower by 15.08%,
10.39%, 22.22%, and 41.74% for the 10% concetration than the Jet A-1.
