INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/41493 Materials of projects are unique, it means that one project with other most likely has different specification. The specifications depend on process condition in field, such as pressure, temperature, type of fluid, fluid velocity, volume etc. Some reasons why surplus material could occur in the project, such as a minimum quantity should be purchased although exceed of project requirement, additional quantity of required material of the project as safety factor to anticipate lack of material in mid of project execution, change of engineering design when project execution process facing obstacle in field and utilization of existing surplus material. If the surplus material could be utilized in facility project activities, potential total saving for surplus material utilization is around USD 1,538,726. In this research, author utilize 5 whys technique to find out the root cause of surplus material problem in PT CPI. The conclusions based on 5 whys technique are excessive surplus material in satellite godown of PT CPI due to low utilization from users of the new project, surplus data material is still kept in each satellite godown that makes information become limited to be accessed and there is no online centralized database management system to manage existing surplus material. The recommendations for PT CPI to be applied are PT CPI management must have the willingness to change the existing traditional management file to the new database management system (DBMS) to manage surplus material data, the new system should be socialized by memorandum email from PT CPI management (leadership) and need short training for respective employee who has interaction with surplus material and need initiative from PT CPI management to expedite utilization of surplus material by to pursue the users/engineers to utilize surplus material first before to purchase the new ones. text |
