Description
Summary:Study of drying nila fish (Nile Tilapia/Oreochromis Niloticus) had been carried out in March to June 2008. This study used two methods, direct sun drying and active indirect solar drying. Drying air velocity inside drying chamber were varied at 0.3, 0.4, 0.5 and 0.6 m/s. The aims of this research are to get the drying characteristic of nila fish, to compare the fish quality that dried by direct sun drying and active indirect solar drying. Numerical analysis was also done using finite difference method for simulation. The experiments result showed that the active indirect solar dryer produced better quality of fish than that resulted by direct sun drying, where the color of fish that dried by solar drying less browning than sun drying, there is no shrinkage and total bacterial count 300x less than the sun drying. Comparison between experiment and numerical analysis shown that the numerical computation result has a good agreement with the experiment result for the highest drying air velocity. The accuracy obtained was 15.2%.
