Generally, in order to make a system working properly, one of the requirement is the existence of good information management. The world of education also needs good information management. Management of students information, lecturers, employees, courses, laboratories, practical works, lecturing and others can be well conducted by having proper information management system in place. A lot of benefits can be extracted from good information system, for example in seeking lecturers data, employees, courses and students can be done easily, data management becomes more efficient, no data duplication, et cetera. In the absence of good information system all of the above mentioned become uneasy to be done. Though information system is needed by all education institution, however, not every single of them has it, one of them is Mechanical Engineering Department of the Faculty of Engineering at Sriwijaya University (UNSRI). This Research is conducted to develop education information system for Mechanical Engineering Department of the Faculty of Engineering UNSRI that can be developed furthermore. The conducted research methodology is based on field observation by studying current system used through some interviews and documentation assessment. Based on the obtaining data and input an ER (Entity Relationship) model is build. Thereafter, the developed model become PDM (Physical Data Model). On the basis of the upcoming PDM, therefore, some tables by certain necessity is developed, followed by the building of interface to manipulate (add, delete and edit) data in tables. Right after interfaces are developed the data input process is conducted followed by data inspection that entered to check whether they are appropriate or not. This education Information system is developed in web based in order to enable online accessed by anybody require information about Mechanical Engineering Department UNSRI. At this early stage, the developed system only covering courses data management, employees and students. The ability of this system ranging from conducting courses data searching process, as well as employees and students, in a quick mode, alter manual data becomes digital data, lessen data duplication and lessen expense of data management. The form of the system output is as the softcopy data in the file form such as word, excel, xml and csv document. This softcopy data is very substantial to support every participated activities conducted by Mechanical Engineering Department UNSRI, i.e. Accreditation and Grant Competition Program (Program Hibah Kompetisi - PHK).
