Description
Summary:The purpose of this final project was to find the relationship between iodine value and saponification value with the performance and the exhaust gas emissions. Iodine value is representing the amount of the saturated fatty acid or unsaturated fatty acid on the triglycerides. The Saponification value is used as an indicator of fatty acid chain length or molecular weight in triglycerides. The experiment used three kind of fuel with a different iodine value and saponification value. The experiment was done in low rpm (1500 rpm) with a different load and observed the performance of the engine and the exhaust gas emissions. Result show that higher iodine value and saponification value cause cause decreasing performance. Iodine number will gave higher FVC (9,82%), BSFC (14,16%), BSEC (6,62%). HC, O2 and particulate emissions influenced by iodine value. Otherwise, CO and CO2 emissions influenced by saponification value.
