One type of application that makes wear resistance the main focus is on coating using abradable materials. Abradable material is a material that is intended to have the ability to wear so as not to deplete the opposite material in the paired components. This unique nature makes the abradable material attractive for research on its constituent elements, its properties, and also the techniques that can be carried out in its processing. The choice of processing techniques is equally important in making abradable materials. One method that can be used in the coating process is High Velocity Oxygen Fuel (HVOF). HVOF is one of the coating methods that has many process parameter variations with advantages in the form of thickness control and fast processing. In this study, focusing on parameter variations in the form of surface treatment and pre-heat. The surface treatment is thought to have an effect on the adhesion of powder to HVOF coating with differences in the roughness value of each surface treatment applied. In addition, the pre-heat is expected to be able to provide increased powder ability to attach to the substrate on HVOF coating. Although with many variations and advantages, but this method is still rarely used in coating abradable materials on an industrial scale. So that this research is expected to be a reference for alternative methods for coating abradable materials. In this study the results obtained from surface treatment will improve the properties, mechanics, and performance of layers resulting from HVOF spraying consisting of thickness and hardness is increase also there is an increase with better wear characteristics. In addition, increasing pre-heat temperatures also increases thickness and hardness also better wear characteristics for each specimen variation in the experimental design. So we can conclude that variation of surface treatment and preheat temperature obtained will contribute to the physical, mechanical, and performance characteristics of the coating material resulting in extraordinary results from spraying using HVOF. text
