Summary: | Vibration occurred at a machine can be in the form of translation and
rotation. The vibration occurred in rotation direction commonly identified as
torsional vibration. Torsional vibration can cause fatigue damage to the shaft,
coupling, as well as gear system. In Dynamic Laboratory, research about torsional
vibration has not been done. This encourage Dynamic Laboratory to do research
about torsional vibration of rotor-shaft system using flexible coupling.
In this examination, modeling, testing, and torsional vibration analysis of a
rotor-shaft system will be carried out. The test in this research includes the FRF test
(Frequency Respon Function) as well as spectral map test consisting of lateral and
torsional spectral map. The spectral map in lateral direction to investigate the
possibility of the occurrence of cross-coupling phenomenon between lateral and
torsional vibrations. Meanwhile, the spectral map measurement in torsional direction
was conducted to perceive the torsional dynamic characteristics of the rotor-shaft
system.
The results of lateral spectral map testing did not indicate any existence of
cross-coupling phenomenon between lateral and torsional vibration, while the results
of torsional spectral map testing indicates that the characteristics of the torsional
vibration are similar to those of lateral vibration. Furthermore, the results of torsional
spectral map indicated that the torsional vibration level depended on the type of
flexible coupling used. The torsional vibration level on hose coupling is higher than
that of jaw coupling. |
