Analysis of Electroencephalography (EEG) Signals from Cognitive Test Results Conducted on Undergraduate Students
This study aims to analyze the cognitive abilities of the subject by reviewing brain wave patterns recorded by EEG devices and to determine the dominant hemisphere of the brain when cognitive tests were given. Research subjects were 5 undergraduate students from the age of 19 to 22 who had no history of neurological disease. Subjects were given written questions that should be answered within 15 minutes or less. Recording was done using EMOTIV EPOC+ EEG with the duration of 17 minutes. The results of EEG recording in the form of (.edf) data format were then processed and analyzed using the BioSIG and EEGlab toolkits that utilize MATLAB software. The .edf data then was sliced according to the time reviewed, the centering and filtering process were then carried out and estimations were made using the Welch periodogram technique to obtain power spectral density (PSD) data for each electrode. From the research it was found that alpha wave had the greatest PSD value when the experiment was conducted on subjects in closed eyes state rather than open eyes state, there was a shifting in the alpha peak frequency towards greater value after the cognitive reading test was done with eyes opened, and the right hemisphere had greater PSD value when subjects were carrying out cognitive tests. text |
