CHARACTERISTICS OF POROUS STRUCTURE IN CONCRETE USING PROCESSING TECHNIQUES AND IMAGE ANALYSIS BASED ON MICRO COMPUTED TOMOGRAPHY
The presence of pores in a volume of concrete obviously affects the compressive strength of concrete. Furthermore, characteristics of the pores formed in concrete may vary, such as in shape, in size, in volume, and/or in its orientation tendencies. These characteristics also depend on the composing...

Furthermore, characteristics of the pores formed in concrete may vary, such as in shape, in size, in volume, and/or in its orientation tendencies. These characteristics also depend on the composing materials and the concrete casting process. The method characterization used in the laboratory is usually destructive, hence alternative techniques are used to analyze rocks that are based on the Digital Rock Physics approach. The concept of this method is to convert the concrete sample into a 3D digital image using MicroCT-Scan. The digital image is then used to measure the physical quantities that are appropriate for analyzing the concrete. In this final project, the individual pore structure as well as the 3D bulk properties of nine concrete cores of different aggregates type were analyzed. Qualitative comparison of the concrete before and after a uniaxial compressive strength test were then performed to analyze the formed crack pattern. In addition, a quantitative review of the pores in the concrete is carried out, i.e., volume distribution, size distribution, and spatial distribution. Likewise, structural descriptions of the pores were also analyzed, including the shape, orientation, pore eccentricity analyzed. text |
