Description
Summary:Coating with HVOF Thermal Spray method has the potential to produce coating that has the characteristics of thick layer coating. One application for thick layer coating is coating using abradable material on steel substrate. However, HVOF method for abradable material application coatings is still rarely used. In this research will be conducted experiments to perform abradable material coating with the method of HVOF expected to produce a thick layer coating. In this study the parameter variables evaluated include a variation of the surface treatment process in the form of etching, blasting and blasting etching and spraying distances of 20 cm and 30 cm.The etching solution used is a mixture of 33.3% ethanol and orthophosphate 66.67% and the blasting used is aluminium oxide. After the coating process, the characterization of the quality of the coating in the form of surface roughness testing, hardness testing using microvickers, wear testing with Pin on Disk and characterization of SEM-EDS. From the results of this study has the conclusion that the surface treatment that resulted in the highest thickness value is high that the Etching Blasting process was 181.4 ?m, the hardness value of 396.8 HV and the characteristics of wear or abrasive wear. While the spraying distance produces the best wear characteristic value with the least porosity condition and spraying distance of spray 20 cm produces an average thickness of 172.8 ?m, the average hardness value of 338.9 HV and wear characteristics in the form of abrasive wear.
