INTERPRETATION OF SELF POTENTIAL DATA AROUND TANGKUBAN PERAHU MOUNTAIN TO DETERMINE SUBSURFACE FLUID FLOW DIRECTION

A field research has been carried out using self potential method around Tangkuban Perahu Mountain. The purpose of this study is to find out the distribution of electric potential value, determine the direction of subsurface fluid, and determine the depth of anomaly in the survey area. Self potentia...

The purpose of this study is to find out the distribution of electric potential value, determine the direction of subsurface fluid, and determine the depth of anomaly in the survey area. Self potential method is a geophysicist passive method where the measurement of subsurface natural electric potential is carried out without injecting electric current to beneath the surface but only measure natural electric potential difference between two point at the surface. Self potential data taken using fix based electrode configuration with 20 measurement point for each measurement line with total 4 measurement lines. The obtained electric potential data then interpreted qualitatively using SURFER 11application to generate an iso-potential map of survey area with the distribution of potential values varying from -80 mV to 110 mV. From the iso-potential map, the direction of subsurface fluid flow can be predicted. According to iso-potential map and topographic effect the fluid flow from southwest to northeast in survey area. Next the quantitative interpretation is used to yield the parameters of anomaly source which indicated have flowing fluid beneath the surface. Quantitative interpretation done using MATLAB application. The result of this research by doing forward and inverse modelling to field data are the depth of anomaly from the slicing line are between 55 meter to 250 meter and the shape factor of research area are vertical cylinder and sphere. text
