SYNTHESIS OF FILM BASED ON NANOSELULOSA, CHITOSAN AND IVY EXTRACT AS UV PROTECTION

The rapidly growing industry in this modern era is cosmetics industry. Products that have high selling are masks and sunscreens. Masks are useful for moisturizing the skin and nourishing the skin while sunscreen is useful for protecting the skin from ultraviolet radiation. Ultraviolet (UV) radiat...

INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/41855 The rapidly growing industry in this modern era is cosmetics industry. Products that have high selling are masks and sunscreens. Masks are useful for moisturizing the skin and nourishing the skin while sunscreen is useful for protecting the skin from ultraviolet radiation. Ultraviolet (UV) radiation that is exposed to the skin for a long time can cause skin cancer. Sunscreen products on the market are made from inorganic materials like TiO2 and ZnO which can cause environmental problems and are toxic to animals. In previous studies, it was found a material derived from ivy plants that have a potential to be used as sunscreen. So that, in this study will make a film that can moisturize and can be used as a sunscreen derived from organic materials that can be degraded, namely ivy extract, nanocellulose, and chitosan. Film was made by mixing nanocellulose and chitosan in suspension and adding ivy extract then printed on a glass plate. Characterization of ivy extract and film was carried out using UV-Vis to determine its activity in the UV region. From the test results it was found that ivy extract has the ability to absorb maximum ultraviolet radiation at a wavelength of 280 nm and decrease to 400nm. Furthermore, the resulting film was characterized using UV-vis which can absorb UV radiation in the range of 290-400 nm. The results indicate that ivy extract and films based on nanocellulose, chitosan, and ivy extract have the ability to absorb UV radiation so that they can be used as an alternative to sunscreen products. text
