Description
Summary:Earthquake is a natural disaster which causes great destruction and leaves a great number of victims on its wake. Indonesia being situated in the middle of the ring of fire suffers from numerous earthquakes annually. During search and rescue operations conducted after the earthquake, one of the most frequent problems encountered by the field operators is the lack of information available regarding the location of the victims. Less reliable sources such as witness reports or infromation from family members about the missing victims are often used as a source of information to carry out SAR operations. Devices to aid in search and rescue endeavors already exists and are owned by BNPB. One of them being a life detector capable of connecting to cellular phones in the side of the victims and is equipped with many sensors to help looking for buried victims. Although useful, the availability of the devices becomes a problem because not all stations have them. The system designed in this final project makes use of informations available before the disaster strikes. This information can be used by the field operators to aid in identifying potential locations of the buried victims. With this system, search and rescue operations can be carried out more efficiently in a more directed, data-driven manner.
