DESIGN OF KAMPUNG RESORT AND SPA AT KAWASAN WISATA CIPANAS, GARUT REGENCY, WITH SUNDANESE ARCHITECTURAL APPROACH OF KAMPUNG NAGA

Tourism industry is one of Indonesia’s industrial sector which still has a huge enough potential to be developed. The development of Indonesia’s tourism industry could contribute to the increase of Indonesia’s national income. With its richness of culture and natural resources, Indonesia could promote itself to become one of the favourite travel destination. Garut Regency (Kabupaten Garut) is one of many local destination in Indonesia that could be promoted as a travel destination because of its natural potency and tourism landmarks, with Kawasan Wisata Cipanas as the favourite tourism region in Garut Regency. The high number of tourists visiting Kawasan Wisata Cipanas could lead to increasing demand of hospitality service for the visiting tourists. Thus, building a resort at Kawasan Wisata Cipanas would be a profitable step to answer the tourists’ need of hospitality service. The designed resort and offers natural and traditional ambience inside. Located at Jalan Cipanas Baru in the inside of Kawasan Cipanas on a 6 hectare of land, this resort will be operated by Hotel Santika Premier and will be targetting families, social groups, and local residents as its visitors. Charateristics of Sundanese culture and the identity of its people could be reflected through the adaptation of Sundanese architecture of Kampung Naga. Visitors of this resort will be offered by recreational and relaxing facilities, such as restaurant, bar, cafe, spa, fitness room, hot spring, multifunction room, and meeting room. There are a total of 30 rooms and 3 different types of room for staying. The visitors could choose the type of room depends of the number of people stayng and the facility it has to offer. There are swimming pools and hot water pools for suite and family room type so the visitors could indulge themself in the water while enjoying the mountain view inside their room. The visitors who are not staying could enjoy the view of mountain and ricefield around the resort and also take a ride with canoe inside the lake around the restaurant and bar. To create the ambience of traditional village, all of the building in the resort are designed to have the configuration that resemble the traditional house of Kampung Naga. Some of the form that are adapted from Kampung Naga traditional house are the Julang Ngapak roof, the staged floor, the wood-dominated structure, and the woven bamboo which is used for the walls. Hopefully, the architectural concept of using Kampung Naga’s Sundanese architecture would attract tourists which are visiting Garut Regency, create comfort among the resort’s visitors, and also introducing and preserving the Sundanese culture among visitors as well as locals.
