Description
Summary:The Toy Museum Project as Childrens Recreational and Educational Space: Serambi Dolanan in Bantul is a response to the need to relocate the collection of the Kolong Tangga Toy Museum in Yogyakarta and the Bantul government program to become a Child-Friendly Regency / City (KLA). The 4923 m2 children's toy museum showcases a collection of museum owners, Rudi Corens, a Belgian art collector. The museum design also accommodates the activities of users, especially children and their companions, past toys observers, as well as local communities, by becoming a means of childbearing and public recreation. This project was designed with three main issues in mind, namely interactions, sequences, and adaptations. The issue of interaction emerged as a response to the context of child-friendly design in the function of the main collection exhibition at the museum and children's play facilities to support the KLA program. Issues Sequences emerge as a means of conveying messages for children to learn about toys in the past and bring visitors to experience childhood nostalgia. The issue of adaptation emerged as a response to the context of the project site, Bantul which is a district full of culture, how building design can portray the surrounding culture. The design process departed with the concept of "Childrens Playful Promenade" which was then translated into space and form, which produced dynamic and iconic forms, became buildings with child-friendly designs and resulted in interactions between buildings and children who have harmonious juxtaposition with the surrounding buildings . The sequences in the building are made to flow using a ramp by playing a space to produce a nostalgic experience and can connect between each function in the museum. Material and facade design in the museum are designed as an embodiment of cultural elements as a context that is considered when designing, one of which is using local materials.
