EFFECT OF RAW MATERIAL CONDITIONS AND TRANSPARENT AGENT IN THE PROCESS OF TRANSPARENT SOLID SOAP PRODUCTION

Transparent soap is a bar of soap which has translucent and transparent characteristics due to the addition of transparent agent. In this research was carried out soap production using various oil from coconut oil, palm oil, nyamplung oil and transparent agent (e.g. glycerine and sugar) to produce transparent soap. Transparent value, water content, foam stability and soap hardness were determined to ensure soaps quality. Oil mix which consist 60% w/w palm oil, 25% w/w coconut oil, and 15% w/w nyamplung oil has the greatest transparent value of all, followed by palm oil soap with addition 3:1 sugar to glycerine ratio, coconut oil soaps with 1:2 and 1:3 sugar to glycerine ratio. The least water content is indicated on the palm oil soap with 3:1 sugar to glycerine soap (30% water content). This value not meeting SNI (Indonesian National Standard) of 15% water content in soap. Coconut oil soaps have the best oil foam stability and hardness characteristics. The best transparent soap was determined using assessment based on characterization that have been done. Palm oil soap with 2:1, 1:2, 1:3 sugar to glycerine ratio and mixed oil soap with 60% palm oil, 25% coconut oil, 15% nyamplung oil were good quality transparent soaps according to assessment result. text |

Commercial soaps were produced using fatty acid or triglyceride such as palm oil,
coconut oil, soybean oil, and peanut oil. Chracteristics of soap were determined by fatty
acids or triglycerides, the amount of caustic sodas (NaOH or KOH), and water.
Transparent soap is a bar of soap which has translucent and transparent characteristics
due to the addition of transparent agent.
In this research was carried out soap production using various oil from coconut oil,
palm oil, nyamplung oil and transparent agent (e.g. glycerine and sugar) to produce
transparent soap. Transparent value, water content, foam stability and soap hardness
were determined to ensure soaps quality.
Oil mix which consist 60% w/w palm oil, 25% w/w coconut oil, and 15% w/w
nyamplung oil has the greatest transparent value of all, followed by palm oil soap with
addition 3:1 sugar to glycerine ratio, coconut oil soaps with 1:2 and 1:3 sugar to
glycerine ratio. The least water content is indicated on the palm oil soap with 3:1 sugar
to glycerine soap (30% water content). This value not meeting SNI (Indonesian National
Standard) of 15% water content in soap. Coconut oil soaps have the best oil foam stability
and hardness characteristics. The best transparent soap was determined using
assessment based on characterization that have been done. Palm oil soap with 2:1, 1:2,
1:3 sugar to glycerine ratio and mixed oil soap with 60% palm oil, 25% coconut oil, 15%
nyamplung oil were good quality transparent soaps according to assessment result.
