INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/42121 Butylated Hydroxytoluene is a kind of synthetic phenolic antioxidant which is widely used as an additive in the pharmaceutical industry. However, the use of BHT can harm health because it is carcinogenic. Therefore, its use in pharmaceutical products has a permisible amount of 0.0075 - 0.1% so that it requires sensitive analytical method for BHT determination. Several analytical methods had been developed for BHT such as Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS), High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) and voltammetry. Voltammetry has several advantages compare to other methods. It is simple, sensitive and selective. In this study, we developed carbon paste electrode (CPE) modified by Molecularly Imprinted Polymer (MIP) for BHT determination. MIP was plated on CPE using cyclic voltammetry (CV) technique with I 0 potential cycles at potential range of -0.6- 1.4 V and scan rate of 100 mV/s in solution containing BHT, bromothymol blue and phosphate buffer of pH 7. The concentration of BHT and bromothymol blue was I mM and 1 mM, respectly. MlP was formed by removing trapped BHT using 5 potential cycles at potential range of -0.6 - 1.4 V with scan rate 100 mV/s in phosphate buffer of pH 7 as supporting electrolyte. Repeated measurement using the modified electrode gave %RSD of 6.94%. Linear calibration curve was found in the concentration range of I 00 f..LM -1000 f..LM with detection limit of 42.62 f..LM. BHT determination of spike cream samples resulted in percent recovery of I 01.08 ± 15.95% showing a good accuracy of the method. text |
