Description
Summary:The design of the Astronomy Museum building located on Jl. Ir. H. Djuanda was initiated by LAPAN in collaboration with ITB. The main function of the building is an exhibition with supporting functions in the form of education, office, curation, amenities, service and parking functions. Users in building consist of tourists, museum managers, employees, students, communities and professionals. The location in the center of the city makes the main issue in the design that is related to the provision of urban activity space from public spaces and green open spaces on the site. The design theme of 'House of Astronomy' was applied as a central design approach to astronomical activities by applying astronomical elements to the design. The shape of the building uses a metaphor from the moon's orbit consisting of four main masses with two additional masses. The basic form of the main mass (exhibition) with the supporting mass (planetarium) is a metaphor of the shape of the telescope. The building facade applies the concept of dark-light to produce lighting and nuances of the universe inside and outside the building.
