The research aim to determine geological setting and find out distribution and quality of coal deposits in the research area. Primary data used in this research obtained from field observation and field data collection in the form of outcrop data. There are also core data and coal quality data that are used as secondary data. Research area was divided into four geomorphologic units which are Gumbil Homocline Hills Unit, Manggis Homocline Plain Unit , Intrusion Hills Unit. The stratigraphy of research area divided into four unofficial units from oldest to youngest: Sandstone Unit that deposited on Eocene. Claystone Unit (Oligocene – Middle Miocene) that deposited on Sandstone Unit. Andesite Intrusion Unit intruded previous units on Late Miocene. Aluvial Unit (Recent) deposited unconformity above the other rock units. Geological structure developed in the research area is fault in northeast – southwest and northwest – southeast direction. Coal analysis in this research is in the form of secondary data from the laboratory, includes proximate analysis, carolific value, and total sulphur analysis. Based on general analysis, coal deposit in research area has lignite rank quality. UNECE Coal Rank Classification shows that coals in research area are medium-high rank coals, para-bituminous. Based on ash content, coal deposit in research area is classified as good to poor quality coal. While based on total sulphur, the coal deposit is classified as low sulphur coal to high sulphur coal. Distribution of coal in the research area was anlyzed based on core data and outcrop data. In the research area, there are eight coal seams whose distribution is influenced by geological structure. Consists of one continuous seams (Seam F) from the south to the north of research area and seven non-continuous seams, including Seam A, Seam B, Seam C, Seam D, Seam E, Seam X, and Seam Y. text |
