ANALYSIS OF PASSENGER PERCEPTION IN LONG DISTANCE TRAIN USING THE SOUNDSCAPE METHOD

For transportation user, acoustical environment could determine the comfort of the mode used, especially in long-distance train, where passengers do all their activities for more than 8 hours inside the train. The variety of activities create different environmental perception for the passengers...

INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/42282 For transportation user, acoustical environment could determine the comfort of the mode used, especially in long-distance train, where passengers do all their activities for more than 8 hours inside the train. The variety of activities create different environmental perception for the passengers in terms of comfort. In this study, the soundscape approach was applied to identify the sonic environment perception inside a long-distance train relation. The recording of sound to be analyzed is done by ambisonic microphone to create the spatial sound representation. Then, we determine the link between noise inside the train from the data gathered and the passenger’s activity itself. From the previous researches, the dominant sound sources in train are from bogie, bordes, and from announcements. Mechanical sounds the train created are considered disturbing for the passenger, while announcement and conversational sounds are considered important to be heard. From this research, we expect to identify the sonic environment of long-distance train and whole activities within it. Therefore, we could apply proper acoustical treatment to increase the passenger comfort in accordance to their preferred activity. text
