Summary: | Cadmium is widely used in industrial processes, including anti-corrosion, color P!gments in paints, and nickel-cadmium batteries. This rocess also p oduce_s Cd (II) waste wh1ch _has t e potential to pollute the environment, espec1 1ly _the aquat1c env1romnent: Ion Cd _(II) IS to 1c and non-essential for living things. Adsorption IS one of the easy, effective, and mexpenstve methods for the reduction of Cd (II) ions in wastewater. In this research, synthesis of calcium alginate-PV A composite as Cd (II) ion adsorbent was carried out. The adsorbent characterization was carried out using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and Scanning Electron Microscopy-Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (SEM-EDS). Determination of the optimum adsorption conditions includes the composition of the adsorbent, pH, contact time, and mass of the adsorbent. The results showed that the optimum adsorption conditions on the composition of adsorbent is alginate 6%: PVA 2%, pH 4, contact time 4 hours, and mass of adsorbent 0,2 grams using a 25 mL volume solution in a batch system. The Cd (II) ion adsorption process follows the Langmuir isotherm model and the pseudo second-order kinetics model. The adsorption process ofCd (II) ions by adsorbents was endothermic with a value of
6-H = 8.4237 kJ.mol•1 and 6-S = 0.0045 kJ.mol.1 K•1
