Indonesia’s electricity ratio has achieved 92,8% in 2017. However, east regions
of Indonesia such as Papua and NTT still have low electricity ratio (<60%). Fuel
cell can be an alternative technology of power plant for rural regions because it
can be made in small capacity with high energy conversion. Solid oxide fuel cell
(SOFC) is a fuel cell which uses solid electrolyte operated at 800 – 1000oC. High
operating temperature makes complex materials and need high heat. Nowadays,
Intermediate temperature SOFC operated at 500 – 800oC is being developed to
lower operation cost. Utilization of Indonesia’s materials and reducing operating
temperatur can reduce the cost of fabrication and operation.
Performance of anode-supported SOFC cell based on CSZ produced by KPEEITB
Laboratory need to improved because of low maximum power density and
mechanical strength. In this study, SOFC cells was fabricated with planar-disc
anode- and electrolyte-supported configuration based on Calcia Stabilized
Zirconia (CSZ) dan Yttria Stabilized Zirconia (YSZ). This research focused on
improving the performance of anode-supported SOFC cells based on CSZ.
Moreover, anode-supported SOFC cells based on YSZ and electrolyte-supported
based on CSZ and YSZ were also fabricated as comparison. The SOFC cells were
tested using hydrogen as fuel and ambient air as oxidant at 600, 700 and 800oC.
The result exhibited hardness of anode-supported cells based on CSZ increased
from 0 to 1 mohs because sintering temperature increased from 1000oC for 1 hour
to 1100oC for 3 hours and amount of pore former reduced from 15%wt to 10%wt.
Moreover, hardness of anode-supported cells based on YSZ was 2 mohs. The
highest maximum power densities of anode-supported cells based on CSZ and YSZ
were 1,09 and 2,64 mW/cm2 at 800oC, respectively. Furthermore, the highest
maximum power densities of electrolyte-supported cells based on CSZ and YSZ
were 0,995 and 2,32 mW/cm2 at 800oC, respectively.
