Summary: | Pb (II) metal ion is one of the heavy metal pollutants that are armful to aquatic e.cosystems. Lead metal ion poisoning can cause nervous system disorders, reproduct1vsystem disorders disorders of hemoglobin synthesis and kidney failure. Removal of Pb Ion from waste w;ter can be done in various ways, one of them is adsorption. In this research a
calcium alginate-polyvinyl alcohol composite was made by crosslinking with boric acid
and calcium chloride as Pb (IT) ion adsorbent. Adsorbents have been characterized using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and Scanning Electron Microscopy Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (SEM-EDS). The results showed that the optimum adsorption capacity of adsorbents was the composition of 6% Na-Aiginate and 2% PVA. The optimum condition of the adsorbent was reached at pH 4, the mass of the adsorbent is
0.1 gram and the contact time is 90 minutes for 100 mg. L-1 initial concentration of the ion
sample. The Pb (II) ion adsorption process by the Alginate-PYA composite adsorbent follows the Langmuir adsorption isotherm model and follows a pseudo second-order kinetics model. In addition, the adsorption process has a value of H = 13.1195 kJ.mol-1 and a value of S = 0.01897kJ.moJ-1 .K-1 •
