| Summary: | Yogyakarta is commonly known as the city of education and the city of tourism and culture. However, contemporary theatre in this city is not growing as fast as in other cities like Jakarta, Surabaya, and Ujung Pandang. One of the institutions that have concerned to develop it more is Kalanari Theatre Movement. Kalanari Theatre Movement has a vision and mission to reinforce the theatre community itself and to acquaint contemporary theatre to the society. Therefore, Kalanari Theatre Movement has roles as client and pioneer of this project (Kalanari Theatre Arts School). The client has its own concept that is always used in every theatrical performance, that is Site-specific Theatre. The concept then applied to this project as the main concept, Exploring the Space of Theatrical Experience, where space is an important element of theatre. Yet, there are some issues found in the process of designing the project, those are flexibility issue, zonation issue, ambience issue, and technical issues that have contributions to the design later on. Hopefully, this project could help society especially in Yogyakarta to know about contemporary theatre more and give it some space to grow and develop. |
