Description
Summary:Cikapundung River is one of the rivers that flow through the city of Bandung and is widely used by the community as a source of water. The various activities produce pollutants that flow into the body of water, causing changes in river water quality. Aquatic macroinvertebrates are generally used as bioindicators of water quality due to the varying tolerance ranges of each group. This study aims to assess the quality of the Cikapundung River by using aquatic macroinvertebrates from the families Hydropsychidae, Baetidae, Chironomidae, Simullidae, and Naididae. The study was conducted at 5 stations from upstream to downstream. Station A (Bukit Tunggul), B (Curug Omas), C (Taman Hutan Raya Djuanda), D (Babakan Siliwangi), and E (Bojong Soang). Collection of macroinvertebrates at each station is done by using the Surber and Eckman grab nets. At the same time, water conditions such as temperature, conductivity and dissolved oxygen are measured. Sampling is done every 2 weeks from February to April 2019. Samples obtained are identified up to morphospecies and counted. The results of the study were 2 macroinvertebrate communities along the river, namely community I (stations A - D) in which five families were found and community 2 (station E) contained only the Naididae family. The existence and abundance of Tubifex sp. the highest abundance at stations D and E, while for stations A and B the highest abundance is owned by the species Hydropsyche sp. At station C the highest abundance was Chironomus sp. Based on the Hiselhoff Biotic Index and the results of measurements of water environmental conditions from upstream to downstream, water quality was decreasing with heavily polluted downstream waters.
