The conversion gibbsite to boehmite has been carried out. This study has carried out with hydrothermal method using Parr reactor. The role of acidity, basicity, and percentage of boehmite seed addition have been studied. The acid system was conducted with HNO3 and the base system was conducted with KOH. The concentration of both systems was varied from 1M, 3M, and 5M. The percentage of boehmite was varied from 1%, 3%, and 5%. The reaction temperature was varied from 160, 180, and 200? while reaction time was varied from 2 and 5 hours. Boehmite and gamma alumina were characterized using XRD and BET methods. The most optimum operating conditions and providing the best quality boehmite is when using HNO3 5M as a solvent with 1% boehmite seed added, at an operating temperature of 180? for 2 hours. Crystallinity and crystal size obtained when using these conditions amounted to 60.7% and 10.64 nm. Gamma alumina was successfully made from boehmite synthesized. The surface area of gamma-alumina SB-09 and SB- 22 are 221.74 m2/ g and 50.99 m2/ g respectively. text |

Indonesia has abundance laterite bauxite resource. Indonesia has potential to be used
as gamma alumina precursor. Most of laterite mineral forms is gibbsite. Gamma
alumina can be produced from gibbsite mineral through two steps, converting gibbsite
to boehmite then synthesizing gamma alumina from boehmite.
The conversion gibbsite to boehmite has been carried out. This study has carried out
with hydrothermal method using Parr reactor. The role of acidity, basicity, and
