Summary: | The project of Palembang Wastra Museum is fictional. The main functions that are accommodated
in the design include conservation, research, education and communication activities of collections.
The project is located on Jl. Merdeka No.9, Talang Semut, Bukit Kecil, Palembang, South Sumatra. The
project was initiated by the Palembang City Government to achieve local cultural preservation
missions. The wastra museum has a variety of user targets, from students to creative economic actors
but the main target are public users. The main problems found in the design process include the
response of cultural heritage buildings and the meaning of wastra as an identity of the museum. The
issues raised how the museum can give meaning and be interpreted by its place, so the theme raised
was "Reflexive Place". This concept is a basic concept that will enhance the role of museums in the
environment which is also a major problem of ethnographic museums. The basic concept is manifested
in sub-concepts including the concept of mass and zoning in the site, the concept of juxtaposition and
the concept of atmosphere and space sequences. The sub-concepts later will be developed into mass,
circulation, spaces, facade, structure, and utility concepts in the building. The issue of sustainability
and meaning of wastra in the museum is manifested in the concept of mass and zoning and the
atmosphere and space sequence. While the issue of cultural heritage response was responded to with
the concept of mass and juxtaposition. |
