Description
Summary:Lead ion is one of environment's main pollutant. Lead ion have carcinogenic and toxic effect, therefore dangerous to human body. This research was conducted to determine the ability of calsium alginate freeze dry 's ability as lead ion 's adsorbent. The characteri zation of this adsorbent was done using FTIR (Fourier Transfonn Infrared) and SEM-EDS (Scam1ing Electron Microscopy-Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy). Adsorption conditions have been studied which include several parameters, namely the pH of the solution, contact time and mass of the adsorbent. The result showed that the optimum conditioned can be reached if the contact between the adsorbent and adsorbate was done using 0,1 grams of adsorbent in 25 rnl of pH 4 Pb2+ solution, using 120 minutes contact time in a batch system. The adsorption process follows the Langmuir isothenn model with a maximum capacity of 128,205 mg.g- 1 • The result of kinetics study showed that the adsorption follows a pseudo second order kinetics.
