Based on statistical data, rainfall in Sumba Island in the rainy season is greater than the dry season. The propotion of water availability both ground water and surface water in meeting household water needs on Sumba Island always deficit in the dry season. The rainy season on Sumba Island has a shorter temporal period with a greater rainfall volume than the dry season. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the potential for meeting water needs at the sub-district level by utilizing rainfall in residential areas to suffice household water needs in the dry months. Monthly rainfall data from (Climate Hazards Group InfraRed Precipitation with Station) CHIRPS and rainfall post observations, also residential area data are used to calculate water availability from rainfall in residential areas. Population data is used to calculate population water needs in each district. Through the calculation of the water balance between the availability of water and the household water needs of the population produces probability for household water needs it discovered areas had critical water availability. The calculation results show that in Sumba Island in the study period 2007 to 2016 has the potential water which can be used as meeting the needs of household air during the dry season with an opportunity of 46% of the contribution of water obtained from rain in residential areas. There are 17 sub-districts that did not experience critical water availability and 20 sub-districts that experienced severe water availability from maps of rainwater critical areas. text |
