INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/42905 The development of the textile industry is oriented on the market’s needs, this has caused the industry to often forget the side effect of the act. One of the main issues that we often see in textile industry is the use of one kind of a raw material or resources repeatedly. This method also produces waste when the usage and the process is being done on a massive scale. The act that can be a solution from the dependency of one kind of raw material is to develop new alternative material, whether it’s in the form of product or as a textile material. The cotton fiber (Gossypium hirsutum) is a conventional natural fiber that is widely used in fabrics and produces a huge amount of waste in its’ production. With the appearance of the sustainability principle and the urgency to change the people’s mindset, the categorized, pre-consumer waste has a big potential to be processed into alternative material because the huge amount of stock. The utilization of cotton waste in this report used adhesive-bonding technique, a technique to join fibers with the help of safe and eco-friendly adhesive. The use of the technique leads to the optimization of cotton fiber waste potential, either from the functional or aesthetical aspects. The advantages and faults of the exploration and experiment that has been done has made an innovation in the form of lighting product that will compete in the market or as a guide for the next design process and the development of alternative material in the future. text
