Description
Summary:Women in hijab are now frequently seen in Indonesia. This phenomenon is also occur among female employees at West Java Provincial Government. Although the employees are required to wear official uniforms, the use of the veil is only mentioned to adjust to the uniform. Preliminary studies showed that without a set of rules, these veils expressed unprofessional impression. Since local government employees are representatives of the Government who often deal with the public, it is important to maintain the impression which appears from official attire. Therefore a standard on how to wear hijab which fits aesthetics terms is needed. This study aims to identify the reasons behind veil selection. The research also aims to make veil color combinations based on official clothing’s color scheme. This research uses questionnaire as a tool to collect data from West Java Provincial Government employees. The data obtained is then tabulated and presented descriptively. The color data is then processed to find matching color combination for khaki, as khaki is the main color of official uniform. The color combinations are based on Prang’s color wheel theory, design principles and Kobayashi’s color image scale. The results showed that the selection of veil are caused by the desire to be fashionable, to be attractive and efficient. Veil recommendations are rectangular, unshiny and cover the shoulders or chest. Recommended colors are monochrome, analog colors, gradations of shades of brown, orange and red and grayish blue for contrast colors. Veils with dark colors are recommended for management level employees while veils with bright colors are recommended for middle-lower level employees. The results of study can be used as a reference for local government employees in choosing veil for their official attire. In addition, the results of the study can also be a reference for producers whom targeted local government employees as their market.
