Description
Summary:Baduy is one of the tribes in Indonesia, located in Banten Province. The Baduy has a variety of artistic activities, one of them is weaving, which had become part of the lives of Baduy women. Outer Baduy weaving motifs have themes, visual forms, techniques, materials and new economic systems that make the Outer Baduy weaving become commodities. Outer Baduy weaving motifs consist of geometric motifs that have high abstraction values. These motifs were taken from the representation of flora and anything from nature which later will be turned into a form of simplification which associated with belief, philosophy, and the Outer Baduy views of life. Because of the function has shifted, it has an impact that turns Baduy weaving into commodities, underlying this project to explore the Outer Baduy weaving existing motifs without changing its characteristics. Choosing three types of motifs to explore, the motifs named Suat Songket, Adu Mancung, and Jengge Wari were recomposed in such a way with the intention to produce novelty. The name of the following plants are those which can be used as natural dyes in Baduy such as mahogany, mimosa, kakacangan, ki ayang, reungrang and indigo make the potential for natural dyes to be developed and used as a substitute for synthetic dyes that are very commonly used in Baduy weaving. Exploration of the Outer Baduy motifs and the potential of its natural dyes can be optimized in the Textile Craft field. A study for developing motifs and natural dyes can improve the quality of human resources in Baduy in terms of weaving quality and the use of natural dyes based on existing local wisdom.
