DESIGN OF GREEN CAMPUS RECOVERY FACILITY AT INSTITUT TEKNOLGI BANDUNG - JATINANGOR CAMPUS, SUMEDANG REGENCY
Waste generation at ITB Jatinangor Campus continues to increase every year, however, this is not followed by the development of existing waste management. Thus more garbage will be piled up at the Sumedang Regency landfill, the Cibereum landfill. The Cibereum landfill is considered low because this landfill is the only landfill in Indonesia located at the foot of the mountain. This landfill is still technically sufficient for disposal for another 10 years, but has never been rejuvenated and there is no waste processing. With the increasing waste generation that will be donated by ITB Jatinangor Campus to the landfill, it is planned to conduct waste management independently by ITB Jatinangor Campus with the optimization of inorganic waste. For inorganic waste processing, a Green Campus Recovery Facility (GCRF) is planned in the ITB Area of Jatinangor Campus. GCRF planning starts with knowing the campus field conditions, namely waste generation, waste minimization, service percentage, sampling location, waste composition, and waste density. ITB Jatinangor Campus waste generation in 2018 is 0.23 kg/student-employee/day and will continue to grow each year up to 7097 persons as its maximum capacity. The composition of inorganic waste is dominated by plastic and paper waste, however, not all inorganic waste can be recycled so that the recycled waste in the composition of ITB Jatinangor campus is 66%. Before planning the GCRF, 95% of the waste dumped into the landfill was minimized for composting. The selected design of the Green Campus Recovery Facility is a semi-mechanical system with design capacity up to 3,6 tons/day and most sorting done manually for plastic, styrofoam, cardboard, glass, iron, cans, sticks and additional machines namely bag opener, trommel screen for organic separation, water separator for separating paper and heavy materials, and supporting equipment such as wheel loaders, conveyor belts, and forklifts. The supporting facilities for this GCRF are rainwater harvesting and bio ceramic systems text |
