Summary: | Nowadays population growth in line with increasing demand of food. In otherwise
agricultural land conditions is experience shrinking. Precision agriculture is a solution for
the issue where the use of the internet of things (IoT) in agriculture is one way to overcome
the problem of inefficiency in agricultural production. The purpose of this study is to
describe the implementation of the IoT platform in agriculture, identify the effect of the
adoption of the IoT platform on the farming component, and identify the steps of change
that need to be created by the IoT platform in its contribution to creating aspects of
agricultural farming. This study use a qualitative mutilplecase study approach which
combined with explorative type. Data is taken by in-depth interviews and field observations
through purposive sampling. The location of the study was conducted at four IoT startups
located in Bandung and Yogyakarta as well as farmers partners using the IoT platform
located in Cisarua, West Bandung Regency; Ngantang, Malang Regency; Pondokbali,
Subang Regency; Losarang, Indramayu Regency; and Grabag, Purworejo Regency. The
collected data is then analyzed using content analysis approaches, actor-network theory, and
the theory of change (ToC). The implementation of the IoT platform that feels useful for
farmers today is the efficiency of feeding; water quality monitoring; watering efficiency of
plants; and weather and land monitoring in the category of freshwater fish, shrimp,
horticulture, and food crops. As for the sociotechnogram, the adoption of the IoT platform
makes the agricultural component increase at the same time which makes the relationship
between the agricultural components more optimal. Based on the theory of change using a
bottom-up approach, it is found that the steps of change that can be taken are categorized
into aspect of awareness and skills of IoT technology, farmers' welfare aspect,
environmental aspects, and technological aspects. |
