RUNOFF DISCHARGE SIMULATION TO DETERMINE THE POTENCY OF RAINWATER HARVESTING APPLICATION IN BANDUNG CITY TO REDUCE THE SURFACE RUNOFF

The increased rainfall with land use change in Bandung city that cause the decrease of rainwater catchment capacity, has the potential to enhance the surface runoff. One example effort to reduce surface runoff is rainwater harvesting (RWH). Therefore, in this study a runoff discharge simulation was...

INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/43148 The increased rainfall with land use change in Bandung city that cause the decrease of rainwater catchment capacity, has the potential to enhance the surface runoff. One example effort to reduce surface runoff is rainwater harvesting (RWH). Therefore, in this study a runoff discharge simulation was performed, with the presence of rainfall pools as potential rainwater harvesting (RWH) implemented in Bandung as an effort to reduce surface runoff. The research began by conducting a bias correction towards CHIRPS rainfall data in Bandung area. After that, the runoff discharge simulation was performed using the SWAT hydrological model which is then verified by observation discharge data. A simulation to determine of RWH potential application to reduce the surface runoff in Bandung was then performed, using the rainfall scenario calculated by the CDF method based on rainfall bias correction results. The results obtained that the application of RWH in the Bandung city produce varies of runoff reduction value in each watershed where Citepus watershed is the greatest runoff reduction. The application of RWH with minimum effort that is using a storage capacity of 1 m3, in the Citepus watershed, the simulation results show an effective reduction value of 40% in the 6.3 mm rainfall. Meanwhile, the Cidurian watershed in rainfall of 7.13 mm can reduce by 33%. However, in the Cikapundung and Cisaranten watersheds, the application of RWH with a 1 m3 storage scheme in rainfall of 7.44 mm and 7.8 mm, respectively, can only reduce runoff by 6% and 11%. text
