The rapid change in information and communication technology has led to the addition of world class university assessment metrics. The metric is webometrics. Webometrics is the study of quantitative aspects in building and using information sources, structures, and web technologies with bibiliometric and informetrics approaches. The emergence of webometrics studies has prompted of webometrics ranking. Webometrics ranking is a ranking of higher education institutions throughout the world that is based on the results of an assessment of the institusion’s web activities and impacts. There are four indicators used on webometrics ranking including visibility with a weight of 50%, presence with a weight of 5%, openness with a weight of 10%, and excellence with a weight of 35%. The emergence of webometrics ranking has encouraged desire of universities to compete for the best ranking in webometrics ranking. However, Indonesia universities ranking in webometrics ranking still lagging due to four root causes that is number of external referring subnets received by universities web is low, the number of citation obtained in universities Google Scholar profiles is low, the Scimago ranking of Indonesia universities is low, and universities roadmaps in webometrics ranking has not been clearly defined. Encouraged by the four roots of the problem, a need arose to develop a guidebook for improving the ranking of Indonesian universities in webometrics ranking. Webometrics ranking improvement guidebook for Indonesian universities consists of preliminary sections, literature studies related to webometrics and webometrics ranking, the condition of Indonesian universities in webometrics ranking, universities stakeholder involved in webometrics ranking, and strategies to improve universities ranking in webometrics ranking. Through the webometrics ranking guidebook for Indonesian universities, it is expected that universities can have knowledge about webometrics ranking and help universities in an effort to improve rankings on webometrics ranking.
