Description
Summary:Recently, the development of information and communication technology increases the use of digital devices in various fields, one of them is the education field. Digital devices are used in electronic learning (e-learning) and mobile learning (m-learning). In Indonesia, the development of technology and digitalization potential in education has led to the emergence of companies that make education-based digital platforms. One of them is KelasKita. KelasKita received many complaints from users regarding student and teacher features. In 2019, KelasKita wants to launch the new version of the web application so KelasKita requires feedback from users. The wide range of user’s age, differences in age characteristics, and a previous study stated that there was an influence of age on performance, make the evaluation of web applications KelasKita needs to be done based on the user's age group. This study aims to improve the usability of m-learning web application KelasKita through usability evaluation with the parameters of effectiveness, efficiency, the value of electroencephalogram (EEG), user satisfaction, and problems experienced by users through retrospective think-aloud (RTA). The number of participants is 12 from 4 age groups (< 18 years, 18-24 years, 25-34 years, and > 34 year). Each participant will act as a student and a teacher. Based on the findings of the study, some subtasks still have poor effectiveness but the overall application has good effectiveness. In addition, there are still many mistakes made by participants, the mental workload felt by participants is high when using the application, and there are still problems in the RTA session. To overcome those problems, 42 design improvements were proposed to improve the usability of web application KelasKita. The most significant proposed improvements are improvements to the display of icons and text, the meaning of icons and text, and the layout/screen organization.
