EVALUASI FORMATIVE USABILITY PADA APLIKASI SURAT ELEKTRONIK PROOFN MAIL

Communication media plays important role to support the need of effective information exchange. Companies generally use electronic mail as the main communication media because of their flexibility and practicality. One of communication-based product that is being developed in Indonesia is Proofn Mail. This product is an email-based communication platform that provides personal communication and group chat services. However, users still face difficulties in using application and adapting to Proofn Mail interfaces. This might affect user satisfaction and inhibit the growth of Proofn Mail users. This study aims to improve the usability of the Proofn Mail website application by evaluating the usability level of the login, contact, personal message, and group features based on the user's gender group. Usability evaluation follows formative procedure which measures user performance based on effectiveness, efficiency, satisfaction, electroencephalogram, and retrospective think aloud protocol. Experiments conducted in laboratory environment and involved ten participants who work daily in the office. Results show some features are not effectiveness, such as finding groups, writing complex messages and attaching links. Participants were quite satisfied with the overall system usage. However, participants made lot of mistakes and experienced mental workload during their work. Also, male and female participants showed differences in using application. Men are more effective in performing login, contact and message features. The mental burden received by female participants in using the Proofn Mail website application tends to be higher than that of men. This research proposes seventeen improvements which include changes in the appearance of the application, terminology, and navigation to improve the usability of Proofn Mail website application.
