Description
Summary:One of the crucial equipment related to the production of a mining company is the conveyor belt that functions as an ore transfer equipment. Historical failure data of the tail pulley bearing of conveyor 2BC301 shows an abnormal data, that is, its time to failure (TTF) is lower than that of other conveyor’s bearing with the same function. Reliability analysis of the conveyor is needed to obtain an accurate picture of the cause of the problem and to improve its reliability. The analysis is carried out in three steps. The First step is the evaluation of the bearing’s current reliability which is compared to its ideal reliability. The Next step is the analysis to find the root cause of the problem of the bearing. Based on the result of the root cause analyzed prior, the final step is the establishment of the corrective actions recommendation to improve the bearing’s reliability and the calculation of savings that can be made by the company. The current condition of the bearing shows a potential loss of up to 92% from the bearing’s ideal life and is considered a premature failure. Based on the primary cause of the problem, misalignment and problems on lubrication are the main factors that lead to the failure of the bearing. Thus, alignment during installation, also a maintenance program that includes the period of relubrication and vibration data monitoring is established. For further investigations, a continuous evaluation is needed to assess the improvement of the reliability of the bearing.
