PRODUCTION MANAGEMENTS OF POTATO (Solanum tuberosum, L.) ATLANTIK, GRANOLA AND MEDIANS VARIETIES (CASE STUDY IN LEMBANG DISTRICT, WEST BANDUNG REGENC) AND KERTASARI DISTRICT, BANDUNG REGENCY)

Potatoes are alternative foods which are produced in the highland, and the rate of production is determined by the consumption patterns. The limited appropriate production lands cause the potatoes to be planted in areas which the slope is about >15% without the land conservation practices. The cost of the three varieties of potato cultivations is about 67,33% of the total admissions. It shows that the management of the potato productions haven't been sustainable, effective nor efficient. The purpose of this research is to identify the specific problems and the characteristics of the managements and improvements of those three varieties of potatoes the Atlantik, Granola and Medians. The method is used in this research is a case study approach to potato farmers in Kertasari District (Bandung Regency) and Lembang District (West Bandung Regency) which are the largest potato producing areas in West Java, the analysis of the landscape is used, the analysis of farming efficiency is measured by R/C ratio, the characteristics anaylsis and the Hibrid AHP-SWOT model. The result of the landscape's functions shows that the types of the soils from the fields on those areas are sandy clay-loam, sandy loam fine sandy-loam and sandy fine-sandy clay-loam, which mean the fields there are having a medium-textured soil type, and have a level of medium-high infiltration which are suitable for potato cultivations. The average value of field stability level is 59,20% ± 0,7, water infiltration is 49,80% ± 0,8 and the nutrient cycle is 44,90% ± 1,1 which indicate that the land management levels haven't been optimized. The average value in the Landscape Organization Index (LOI) is 1,07% which indicates the amount of the patches and inter-patches ratio in the landscape. Based on the diversity of vegetations, most of the potato fields have a similarity in the vegetation type, which Toona sp, Eucalyptus sp dan Musa sp (except Atlantik field is about 86,90%) are available in the areas. Then, the Granola field (83,90%) has its own uniqueness, which has Coffee plants (Coffea sp) in the area. These are the field which have the canopy volume values from the highest to the lowest, there are Atlantik field (1,75%) which is 20.894/hectare, Granola field (70,02%) which is 1.809/hectare, Medians field (28,7%) which is 1.584/hectare, Granola field (83,90%) which is 198/hectare, Medians field (3,49%) which is 184/hectare and the last, which has the lowest value is Atlantik field (86,90%) which is 182,2/hectare The values of potato cultivation's R/C from Atlantic, Granola and Medians are 1,27, 1,34 and 2,00 The Hibrid AHP-SWOT model shows the highest priority from the potato consumptions which indicate that the Weakness factor group (37,1%) and the processed potatoes in Opportunity group (31,1%). The main strategy is used, in purpose to improve the sustainable, effective and efficient in the managements of production, is combining the Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) with intercropping cultivations, improving the information and the network of marketing, and processing the potato yields (agro-industry). The main strategy for the processed potatoes is to apply the soil-less farming and a combination of subsoiling and solarization, and to combine the Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) with the intercropping cultivations.
