Development of Quick Calculation Method for Derailment Safety Evaluation and Dynamic Simulation in Curve with Track Irregularities Case Study: Jabodebek Light Rail Train

One of the tasks must be done by engineer in the design process of a new rail vehicle is the evaluation of derailment risk in order to ensure the safety of the vehicle against the derailment accident. Performing such task by time-series simulation using computer software is time consumed, high cost...

INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/43422 One of the tasks must be done by engineer in the design process of a new rail vehicle is the evaluation of derailment risk in order to ensure the safety of the vehicle against the derailment accident. Performing such task by time-series simulation using computer software is time consumed, high cost as well as difficult especially in the early design stage where only limited information available. Thus, in early design stage, it is practical in the rail car manufacture industry to use a simple and quick procedure to evaluate alternative vehicle configurations. Based on literature study, a quick method using simplified analytic equations is proposed to evaluate the sensitivity of the vehicle against derailment prior to the computer simulation in the later stage. The author examines the procedure of the calculation of derailment risk parameters using simplified analytic equations and compare it with the result of computer simulation of full multibody dynamics model of a railway vehicle. It is shown in this final report that a simple and quick procedure can be used to evaluate the safety against derailment which the results show a good agreement with the results of computer simulation. The author also evaluates the performance of the vehicle during negotiating small radius curve with track twist irregularity. The evaluation was done by setting up a comprehensive vehicle-track interaction model in a multibody dynamic software platform. The results show that the designed vehicle has a proper safety against derailment. text
