INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/43459 Apartment complexes are considered to be one of the solutions to fulfill housing demands due to high population growth. The planning, design, construction, and operation of an apartment building largely depends on the height of the building itself especially mechanical systems in an apartment building is an air conditioning system. Air conditioning system serves to achieve thermal comfort for its occupants. Air conditioning system design should not only fulfill the technical requirements but also consider the economics. Air conditioning system design consists of cooling load estimation, systems selection, equipment selection and design, energy intensity calculation special for energy used in air conditioning system, and cashflow analysis of the chosen air conditioning system and its alternatives. Split air conditioning system and split air conditioning system with variable refrigeration flow (VRF) are chosen as the alternative system, with each unit serving rooms with different functions. Wall mounted units are installed in living and work spaces, whereas split duct units are installed in public spaces. Based on energy intensity calculation and net present value cashflow for 15-years analysis, the best alternative for the air conditioning system is the combination of VRF wall mounted units and split duct units, with its energy intensity value and net cashflow present value at 135,39 kWh/m2 and Rp4,238,400,000.00 respectively. text
