RIPARIAN STABILITY ASSESSMENT OF WINONG RIVER BASED ON VEGETATION STRUCTURE AND COMPOSITION, ITB CAMPUS CIREBON, WEST JAVA

Riparian ecosystems are generally characterized by diverse vegetation both habitus and species, and vegetation structure both horizontally and vertically. In order to restructure the ITB campus that is flowed by the Winong River, it requires to be arranged with vegetation that supports the hydrologi...

In order to restructure the ITB campus that is flowed by the Winong River, it requires to be arranged with vegetation that supports the hydrological protection, educational, aesthetic functions. Therefore, it requires research about riparian stability particularly based on its vegetation structure and composition. The goal of this study is to describe the vegetation structure and composition subsequently assess its stability. for fulfill parameters in the riparian stability assessment of the Winong River. This study was conducted along the Winong River that is located on the ITB Cirebon Campus. The research method was approached through vegetation analysis on the left and right side of the river along 530 m which was divided into segments per 100 m. The vegetation structure and composition represented by count of species and number of individuals, arrangement of plant communities, Shannon-Wiener Diversity Index (H'), Evenness Index (E) and Simpson Domination Index (C). Riparian stability is assessed based on those matters. The results of this study show there are 151 trees, 282 poles and 172 saplings and seedling density is 937 individuals / ha. Those consist 33 species and 18 family with diversity H' = 2.81, C = 0.08 and E = 0.80. Based on the criteria of vegetation stability assessment, the Winong River’s riparian has the percent of a ratio actual score to maximum score is 86% which means stable. text
