The crossing demand between the two islands can be fulfilled through the construction of a port in Bakauheni, Lampung. A ferry port, as an intermodal infrastructure, should be able to facilitate movement needs of passengers, vehicles, and vessels. Vessel needs are provided by a sea side port which includes shipping lines, breakwaters, docks, and mooring systems to facilitate the arrival and departure movement for vessel. Passenger and vehicle needs are facilitated by land side port that is divided into passenger terminal and parking area. The passenger terminal is designed to withstand low to high demand but remaining optimal during low demand by using a retractable terminal system. The design of passenger terminal is simulated in a micro simulation to ensure smooth movement of the departure and arrival of passengers. A parking area is needed to facilitate vehicles that will cross, drop and pick up passengers. The design of the parking area includes the overall layout, entry and exit gates, marks and signs, and parking pavement to fulfill the parking demand, ensure a smooth traffic flow and be able to restrain the load of the vehicle. By designing each of these facilities, passenger, vehicle and vessel movement will be accommodated so that the connectivity requirements between Java and Sumatra Island can be achieved. text |
