INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/43608 Technological developments cause bicycles to be more sophisticated which will help increase rider’s comfort. This poses a challenge for some cyclists to determine the position of the gear and the time to shift the optimal gear in various circumstances. The use of automatic bicycle transmissions is expected to reduce the discomfort of riders where they have to change gears continuously while driving. It can happen because the tool will ensure that users always drive in optimal conditions. Therefore this study aims to assist the development of bicycle transmission systems in Indonesia. The automatic bicycle transmission system that is designed has two types of algorithms, constant cadence and comfortable power from the rider. This system also has two modes, manual and automatic. This automatic bicycle transmission system uses proportional control action and derivative control action for the gear shift actuation. The experiment is done to see the response of the gear shift actuator for each gearshift that occurs. From the test results, the overall gearshift meets the rise time parameter of 2 seconds and overshoot by 140% which indicates that gearshift occurs smoothly. It can be concluded that the process of designing an automatic bicycle transmission system was successfully carried out and produced a prototype that is capable of automatically shifting gears according to the needs of the rider. However, this system should be applied in further development so that it can produce a better response and in accordance with user needs. text |

Technological developments cause bicycles to be more sophisticated which will help
increase rider’s comfort. This poses a challenge for some cyclists to determine the position of
the gear and the time to shift the optimal gear in various circumstances. The use of automatic
bicycle transmissions is expected to reduce the discomfort of riders where they have to change
gears continuously while driving. It can happen because the tool will ensure that users always
drive in optimal conditions. Therefore this study aims to assist the development of bicycle
transmission systems in Indonesia.
The automatic bicycle transmission system that is designed has two types of
algorithms, constant cadence and comfortable power from the rider. This system also has two
modes, manual and automatic. This automatic bicycle transmission system uses proportional
control action and derivative control action for the gear shift actuation. The experiment is
done to see the response of the gear shift actuator for each gearshift that occurs. From the test
results, the overall gearshift meets the rise time parameter of 2 seconds and overshoot by
140% which indicates that gearshift occurs smoothly.
It can be concluded that the process of designing an automatic bicycle transmission
system was successfully carried out and produced a prototype that is capable of automatically
shifting gears according to the needs of the rider. However, this system should be applied in
further development so that it can produce a better response and in accordance with user
needs.
