Summary:Halal product is a consumer good that fulfil certain criteria based on Syaria law. As a religion, Islamic religion requires all adherents to consume product with the certain condition, which is known as halal standard. On the other hand, Indonesia as a country with the largest moslem population still struggles with the circulation of halal product. MUI as the halal regulatory organization in Indonesia has the obligation to regulate which products can be consumed by moslem by implementing a certification for halal products. However, the halal certification currently has problems. Over the past 5 years, there have been various cases of products that have halal certificates but have been reported to have non-halal ingredients in the products. This issue happened because MUI doesn’t have any transparency in the products that certified as halal. The process of certification itself is only in the form of an inspection carried out at one time, so that there is still plenty of room to add the product that is not halal. On the other hand, blockchain is a technology that’s currently developing fast, and in its use, blockchain can move or increase trust with various capabilities such as the existence of tamper proof of data stored into the blockchain and increased transparency through distributed data models. This blockchain technology is expected to solve the problems of halal products in Indonesia by presenting a recording system that is able to give halal product transparency and traceability by providing detailed information about products from the production process until the product reach consumers. In the end, through this blockchain-based system, hopefully the standards of halal products in Indonesia can be better so that the trust in MUI halal certification increases.
