The Biomechanics Research Team at ITB has developed gait motion capture systems, starting with a simple single home-video camera based for 2D analysis, and later using two cameras for 3D gait motion capture. However, the earlier 3D Motion Capture System developed only able to record gait motion of one leg, and employed a mirroring system to obtain motion of the other leg. Hence, it is necessary to develop the 3D Motion Capture System further to enable motion capture of bipedal motion. In this study, a system that could capture and analyze the 3D gait of the bipedal motion was developed. The system utilizes 4 action cameras and designed to enable capture of motion and process the acquired images to enable kinematic and kinetics analysis to obtain gait parameters. Calibration of the cameras are based on a checkerboard method, modified for the system. The use of action cameras enabled data retrieval because it has a high frequency of image retrieval. In addition, the use of action cameras results in a more affordable, portable, and more shock-resistant system. Data and resulting parameters obtained from the developed system are in agreement to those found in the literature. Therefore, it may be concluded that the developed system could be used for further gait analysis. Furthermore, the hardware developed could be used to analyse other types of motion, not only gait. text
