Increased access in the form of construction of transportation facilities and infrastructure can encourage inter-regional commuting movements, especially in The Mebidang area. The commuting movements are mostly carried out by workers and then forming the distribution of the attraction and production movements areas as the implications of the decentralization of urban activities outside Medan City. This study aims to identify the extent to which the pattern of commuting affects urban deconcentration in the Metropolitan Mebidang area, both spatially and economically. The data used are the results of the 2015 Field Commuter Survey with the support of a literature review in the form of policy documents and legislation and scientific publications as a theoretical framework. The analysis included commuting characteristics analysis, analysis of movement characteristics and spatial structure analysis using the E / P ratio approach. The method of analysis consists of descriptive statistical analysis, statistical regression analysis, spatial analysis and data triangulation. The results of identification of the spatial structure formed based on the commuting pattern showed that in the Metropolitan Mebidang area deconcentrated occurred outside the core city center. The development of activity centers needs to be optimized according to the economic basis to provide a multiplier effect for the development of other areas in Metropolitan Mebidang. text
